Description: Kidney stones form when certain substances in the urine such as calcium, oxalate, and uric acid become highly concentrated and start to crystallize. This usually happens when a person does not drink enough water, leading to dehydration. When urine becomes too concentrated, minerals stick together and gradually form hard deposits inside the kidneys. Diet high in salt, sugar, or protein can also increase the risk. Other factors include obesity, urinary tract infections, family history, and certain medical conditions. Over time, these crystals grow larger and may cause severe pain if they move through the urinary tract.
